Challenge and project description – traditional industry
Melbye decided to begin their digital experience platform (DXP) journey by building a CMS solution without specification, but with the goal of building and surreptitiously launching a website after three months. The project was organized with internal resources with limited digital experience and expertise from CAG Ateles. The project goal was to create a mature digital organization by building internal competence and responsibility. A project that has proven to be a great success internally. After launching the new website with the best possible UX in mind, which also laid the foundation for all further work, the next step was to build content in Pimcore. This took place around all Melbye's business areas, attracting new customers to the website as well as building a product catalog where it is easy to find products and product information.
The goal of the digital development was to handle accurate and modern product data (PIM / DAM) both internally and for customers. The solution would be adapted for faster and smoother "time to market" with new products and to handle in it about 12000 products and 18000 files including images, videos manuals and other types of information. Melbye strives to be the most competent and the most digitized company in a traditional industry.
Solution – uses many of Pimcore's features
Melbye has been developing its digital platform together with CAG Ateles since 2020. It now includes, among other things:
Automatic import of PIM data from ERP systems such as Dynamics 365.
DAM with automatics in the form of metadata tagging, sorting, thumbnail generation and optimization.
A large number of graphic templates and building blocks ("tile" in Pimcore vocabulary) for web pages
Specialized workflows in the back office for different roles in the organization.
2-factor authentication and future-proof platform for newly launched products and services
Web-to-print with automatically generated product manuals and brochures.
All challenges, needs and wishes have been met by Pimcore's spread and functionality. CMS to build a UX-friendly website with rich content of guides, information, knowledge and experience sharing and MDM and Ecom, for both product presentation and sales. Pimcore's DAM function is used for linking pdf product description, images and technical data. One of the primary technical goals was to develop simple and smooth handling of large amounts of products and data, which today have been fulfilled both internally and externally.
On the roadmap ahead, there is to create customized web portals with a personalized experience, as well as customer login with webshop and invoicing.
